Teacher Profile: Karen Bachofner

Here at MD we are so excited to introduce Karen Bachofner as one of our new quilt teachers!  Karen is not new to teaching, but she is new to us, and we are so happy to welcome her into the Modern Domestic family.

Her first quilt class is Quilting with Curves, and it’s debuting on Mondays, July 21st, 28th, & August 4th, from 6-8:30PM.  We absolutely love the beautiful quilt she made as a sample for the shop:

We asked Karen some questions to get to know her and here’s what she said:

1. How long have you been sewing?

I have been sewing since I was 6 – a very long time!!

2. Tell us about a favorite recent sewing project (What did you make? Who was it for? etc.)

I found a picture in a quilt magazine and of course – no pattern.  I went home and created a pattern and made this quilt from a fat quarter bundle I had in my stash!!!  Fun to make and I love it! (Now I need to write a pattern).

3. What is your favorite sewing tip/tool?

My sewing tip for quilters is:  Love, love, love your iron.  Pressing is so important when sewing and quilting.  It will make a huge difference on the construction and overall finished work.

4. Where do you sew?

I have a wonderful sewing room/studio that’s just perfect for me.  Years of sewing has given me the ideas to create just what I need and want!

5. What sewing project(s) do you plan to tackle next?

I am always finding new ideas.  I love old traditional patterns – the more unusual the better.  The best part is choosing all the fabulous modern contemporary fabrics to make it a quilt for today!!

Sign up for her class online or call the shop at (503) 808-9910. As always, when you sign up for a class, you can purchase your supplies for 10% off at Modern Domestic. See you then!
