My sister loves to sew baby blankets and gifts but doesn’t have a machine she likes to sew with at home. Recently I invited her to take a Sew Basics class at Modern Domestic. My goal was to get her comfortable on the Bernina machines we have in the classrooms here so she could drop in for Open Sew and the Friday night Sew-cials.
What she didn’t know was that I invited five of her friends to join the class and surprise her for a little birthday celebration! There was a range of skills in the class: several students had never sewn before and a few hadn’t sewn in a while and wanted a refresher course. Sew Basics is set up in two parts: the first half we go over the basics of the machines, the second half we make a drawstring bag. Everyone finished their projects and they all went out afterwards to celebrate!
We offer Sew Basics during the weekday as well as in the evenings. If you haven’t sewn in a while or have never sewn at all then Sew Basics is the class for you. And you are welcome to bring friends and cupcakes — hope to see you soon!
