Party Tomorrow Night at Modern Domestic (and giveaways!)

Join us for the snacks and drinks part of the Anniversary weekend this Friday evening April 15th from 6-9pm.

We would just love to say a special thank you to all of our wonderful customers and friends for a delightful first year. We will have our free monogram mini class (which is full) but even if you are not signed up, you can watch the wonders of machine embroidery in action while sipping some wine and eating chocolate.

The first year of MD has been truly amazing. We have enjoyed every one of your faces, had so much fun teaching you all to sew or to sew a bit better, sharing our wonderful BERNINA machines and sergers with you, getting to have the finest teachers in all of Portland, and creating a space that we want to spend time in every day. Thank you all for such a delightful experience.

As a fun little Thank You, we will do a little blog give away for an Open Sewing punch card! That is 10 hours of free sewing for you, and two for a friend! All you have to do is leave a comment about what your favorite part of MD is or was this first year, or what you are hoping to do when you come in for the first time! This giveaway is limited to Portlanders (or surrounding area neighbors, as you must be here to use your sewing hours). We will choose a winner Sunday 4/17 and if you come in tomorrow for the party, you can put your name in for a second chance to win!

We will have other drawings on Friday night as well, so don’t miss it!

I’ve taken several classes this last year. My favorite was the Japanese sewing class with Danielle. I made a lot of friends there.

I love all the great sewing tools. I am excited to use my gift certificate for a class very soon!

I’m looking forward to coming in to learn how to do a buttonhole! And of course fondle all the pretties. Thanks!

I’ve loved learning the basics of quilting with Elizabeth and how to make awesome little zippered pouches with Meredith. Not once have I left Modern Domestic without a smile on my face. Thanks ladies!

Loved my applique stocking class with Anna and envelope pillow class with Lupine. Also, popped in with a small machine problem and Michelle fixed me up in 2 seconds – thank you! Love love love Modern Domestic x

The classes are MD are the best! I started with quilting (Elizabeth’s classes are the best!) and am working my way to other things. Having the chance to use all those fancy machines doesn’t hurt either (a free punch card would be SWEET!).

Love Modern Domestic! I took a great class with Meredith and have been to some fun open sewing nights. Hope to make it over for the party tonight.

The private lessons are well worth the money and besides just helping with a pants pattern I got a lot of extra handouts and advise.

When I come in for the first time, I am looking forward to soaking up the M in MD. I have been sewing and quilting for several years now, but the circles I am in are a little more traditional. I am thrilled to see women in my generation embracing the Domestic, and keeping it Modern!

You guys are so friendly and helpful! I came in to your store with virtually NO knowledge or experience, and within a few sessions you helped me put together an AWESOME flag for Timbers games! Thank you for the expertise!

Finishing up the free motion quilting at MD for my very first full size quilt it was such a kick to have other sewing folks around *right away* to admire it and revel in that feeling of completion.

Loved meeting Lizzy House at MD, especially since there was no way I could afford to take her class at PNCA. Looking forward to working on a petticoat (with a ruffler/gathering foot) for the dress I’m making in Mary Adams’s party dress class. Maybe as soon as next weekend…

  16. Corrinna

Ooh! With all my production sewing I forget to enter the drawing at the party! Thanks for a great anniversary week, the zipper bags are super cute & my finger is healing well!

I came to a birthday party at MD and it was so much fun using those great machines and hanging out with girlfriends. What a great place for a party. The next weekend I took my first class there with Meredith and had a great time again. I can’t wait to take more classes.

I have just “refound” sewing and plan to sew my new baby some clothes! Your store is incredibly charming and I’m crossing my fingers (and my babies) that we’ll be chosen. Someday I hope to teach her sewing with you!

  19. Melanie

I love the big table…I have to get down on the floor at home to cut anything out!

  20. Francesca Lowes

hmm…well, the tote bag class with Michelle opened up the whole wide world of sewing to me, so that was a real highlight. the applique class with Anna still has me giggling when I think about it. and chatting with Meredith and Lupine whilst shopping makes a girl feel like she could move into Modern Domestic for keeps. so. there’s that.

I think I’m too late for the contest but I wanted to leave a comment anyways! I have taken more classes than I can count from a variety of
teachers and I want to thank you for being brave enough to open up this shop one year ago! You have taught me how to sew this year from
winding the bobbin to invisible zippers and darts and I just can’t thank you enough! This has been the best year of my life and a big part of that has Been finding you ladies! I’m sorry I missed the anniversary festivites! Happy birthday MD! Much love! Jamie

Sorry I missed the party. Happy anniversary! I love the energy at MD, you are all generous sources of info and encouragement, but more then that your space is fun, happy and so cool. I love friday sew nights, they are the best and everyone on site is great to hang with!! Wishing you many many more successful years.

I’m really hoping to join you for a screen printing or patternmaking class. I work until 6:30 so I need weekend ones, but once I see them, I’m there!
