Join us for the first ever Modern Domestic Home Sewn Weekend! This three-day stitch-filled sewing soiree will take place here at our beautiful studio, Friday, October 10th – Sunday, October 12th. We have an exciting line-up of talented instructors, special guests, and inspiring projects! Sew, create, learn, and sew some more in a friendly, intimate setting in the heart of Portland, Oregon’s Alberta Arts District.
We are pleased to welcome Lizzy House and Blair Stocker as our featured instructors. Our local friends Susan Beal and Sarai Mitnick will be a part of the fun as well!
Home Sewn Weekend will take place Friday and Saturday 9am-9pm and Sunday 9am-6pm. All days include breakfast, lunch and light snacks. You’ll also have use of BERNINA sewing and embroidery machines, as well as sergers. Tool-kits and supplies for over half your projects will also be provided! A complete supply list for will be available once you register. Plus, we have scheduled plenty of open-sewing time for you to work on your own projects!
Modern Domestic Home Sewn Weekend Details:
Friday morning will kick-off with breakfast and a beautiful cowl sewing project made with Pendleton® wool. This will get you acquainted with the wonderful BERNINAs that you will be sewing on all weekend. Susan Beal will be stopping by for an inspiring trunk show and to chat about sewing with wool, which is the theme of her beautiful new book Hand-Stitched Home: Projects to Sew with Pendleton® & Other Wools.
After lunch get ready to learn “Faux Bois” stitching on a quilted throw pillow with Blair Stocker. This is a super technique that you will want to use over and over in your projects. Blair is also bringing projects from her beautiful new book Wise Craft. If you have not had a chance to cozy up with her book yet, this is the perfect opportunity. It is full of projects designed to keep you creating year-round!
We will break for dinner and give you the chance explore the famous Alberta Street dining experience on your own. Many delicious eateries are walking distance from our studio: we are happy to tell you all about our favorites! After dinner, head back to Modern Domestic for more stitching-fun. Both Friday and Saturday evenings we will break up into smaller groups where you will work on a fun, MD exclusive embroidery project designed by Lizzy House and our own talented staff. There will be open-sewing and tasty beverages too!
Saturday Morning we will take a field trip to the new headquarters of the Colette Patterns Studio. We will visit, chat and take a tour with Sarai and her crew, so think of all your questions you have ever wanted to ask her in person and get ready to be inspired! Returning to the MD studio in the afternoon, you will begin The Meadow Block with Lizzy: her exclusive, never-released awesome quilt design full of fun techniques. This project will take place over two days– it is stunning and fun to make!
Sunday we will reconvene for breakfast in the morning and you will continue working on The Meadow Blocks. And because we couldn’t resist, we also have a fun, surprise project planned with Lizzy in the afternoon. We are keeping this one a secret though, because surprises are fun!
Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your space for this amazing weekend–we can’t wait to sew with you! We are happy to make recommendations for nearby places to stay and places to have dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings (we are not providing accommodations or dinners). Give us a call at (503) 808-9910 if you have any questions. Sign up in the shop, on the phone, or on our website.
