Kid’s Sewing Camp all Summer Long

During the long warm days of summer we are going to be filled up with totally awesome kids and teens from ages 8-18! We are super lucky to have not one, but two dedicated classroom spaces at MD, and one of them is a lovely loft. With great lighting and plenty of space for sewing and cutting, it makes the most wonderful place for our kids classes and camps AND we think we have the best kids and teens teacher ever – Shelly!

We have found that the Kids and Teen Sewing 101 classes are super popular, but what I wish I could have taken as a child is the Kids and Teens Intro to Apparel, Intro to Quilting, and the Skirts Class, oh, and The Doll Clothes Workshop! Oh, dear, I haven’t even mentioned the Print and Sew Tote class or the Silkscreen t-shirt. From about the ages of 8 to 16 or so, I would have happily spent my entire summer at a place like MD. Soaking up the knowledge of a teacher as wonderful, kind, and funny Shelly Figueroa, making new friends and getting to sew quilts, skirts, tops, doll clothes, and more. I was a super crafty kid and unfortunately in my very, very small town, there wasn’t even a fabric store, let alone a place to learn to sew.

Instead, I spent my summers struggling at home with my sister trying to make my dear grandmother’s old Singer work. Probably most of the time was spent threading and rethreading that frustrating machine, NOT SEWING! By the time my younger sister (10 years younger) came along, there was a fabric shop one town over, and a BERNINA dealership with kids classes no less. I still cherish the napkins she made me that summer she took a class. That was over 15 years ago, and my blue checked napkins are well worn, but going strong, with thoughts of my darling 12 year old sister and her first ever sewing projects that has lasted a very very long time!

We provide sewing machines (that work VERY well) and all sorts of tools and equipment for our kids to use for classes. For the summer kids students, we are extending our normal 10% class supply discount to Bernette sewing machines! Even if your class is already over, you can still use your discount. We are super excited and hope it keeps the love of sewing lasting long past summer and for many years to come!
