Firmware Updates

As BERNINA sewing machines get more and more sophisticated, we are embracing the age of the sewing computer.  Like our desktop computers & laptops, now and again we need to update our sewing computer’s software, formally known as ‘firmware’.

BERNINA is constantly improving their products (which is one of the many reasons why I love them), and will release firmware updates when necessary to allow you to use your high-end sewing computer with new products (such as the maxi-hoop and new embroidery software), add decorative stitches and embroidery designs, and to enhance your sewing experience.

To check and see if your BERNINA has the latest version of software, follow the steps below!

BERNINA 560, 580, 710 & 750:

Go to the “Setup” of your BERNINA sewing computer by clicking on the soft key:

Open the information section:

Press the hand symbol one time:

On the screen, you will see which firmware versions are installed on your machine.

BERNINA 780, 820, 830 & 880:

Go to the “Setup” of your BERNINA sewing computer by clicking on the soft key:

Open the information section:

Press the symbol

Press the symbol

On the screen of your BERNINA, you will see which firmware versions are installed on your machine.

If the number of your version is a lower value than the list below of current versions, an update is recommended.

Current Firmware Versions as of 5/08/2014:

If your sewing computer is in need of an update, you have two options.  You can do the update yourself using a BERNINA brand USB stick, and following the directions under the Support tab of your specific machine on BERNINA’s website.  Or, you can bring your machine into Modern Domestic, and we are happy to update your machine for you.

As a reminder, we recommend that you bring your machine in annually for a clean, oil & adjust service!  When your machine is in for service, we automatically check to see if it has the current software version!
