Fashion With a Conscience

Modified Style is an annual fashion show fundraiser with a focus on sustainable sewing practices benefiting three Portland-area non-profits. The show is run by Andrea Fretwell, Janessa Philemon-Kerp, and Laura Boley and is open to all skill levels.

Designers receive a bag of donated scrap fabric and have one month to make a wearable creation. A model of the designer’s choosing will show the design at the Modified Style Fundraiser Fashion Show on May 1st, 2011 at 6:00 pm at Disjecta. Each creation will be auctioned off to raise money for Sisters Of The Road, Out To Pasture Sanctuary, and Children’s Healing Arts Project (CHAP) in a silent auction following the runway show.

If you are interested in participating or would like to donate fabric, email info@modifiedstyle.org. This year’s competition will be divided into Amateur and Professional categories. If you have ever sold a piece of your own, you must enter the Professional category. Include your contact information, sewing level, and your model’s contact information in your email. Rules, guidelines, judging criteria and further information will be emailed to designers and models no later than March 1st.

Modern Domestic will be hosting a Meet-And-Greet on Saturday, February 19th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm with beverages and light snacks. Designers can pick up their bags of scrap material at the event. Bags of fabric will also be available for pick up during regular business hours until February 26th.

Whether you participate or just come out to cheer the designers on, Modified Style is a can’t-miss event benefiting three very worthwhile organizations. We hope to see you there!
