FIND THE RIGHT SKILL LEVEL
Every class listed in our webstore describes the appropriate skill level at which it is taught. Read below to determine which level you will be most comfortable at.
*Please note that all classes are for students 18 and older unless listed as a kid’s class.
Every purchase of a BERNINA machine at Modern Domestic receives MyBERNINA classes and the MD / BERNINA warranty. Even if you’ve taken a machine owner class before you can always come back for a refresher.
LEARN TO SEW
You have never touched a sewing machine before or it has been years since you have. You know very little to nothing about sewing but you are eager to get started.
You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
You’re no longer intimidated by the idea of reading a pattern and comfortable reading a pattern and have made a number of projects. You would like to learn different methods of zipper installation or how to alter your patterns. You’re venturing into more complicated patterns (e.g., lined garments, plackets, collars, zippered fly). Classes are faster paced and generally require homework.

MODERN DOMESTIC CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY
Full payment is due to secure your spot upon signing up for a class. 100% of class fee is refundable or transferable to another class if cancellation is done at least 72 hours before class. There is NO REFUND NOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS TO ANOTHER CLASS IF WE RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF YOUR INABILITY TO ATTEND CLASS WITH LESS THAN 72 HOURS NOTICE. Sorry, we are not able to make exceptions. This ensures the teachers are compensated for their time, and other students waiting for spots in full classes are not missing class opportunities due to late cancellations.
