October is almost here, it’s time to make the perfect lightweight jacket for the cooler weather. In this Intermediate Garment Lab, you get to enjoy the community of other sewists and receive the support you need to create the jacket you’ve always wanted! The patterns below are recommended.  You are welcome to bring along one of those, a different pattern, or jacket project you have already started and need support to finish!

Your supplies may be available for purchase at Modern Domestic! You are welcome to purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. If you plan to shop in-store for supplies the day of your class, we recommend planning about 45 minutes for shopping. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Supply List:

– Recommended patterns: Merchant and Mills Foreman Jacket, Closet Core Sienna Maker Jacket , Friday Pattern Co. Ilford Jacket, Friday Pattern co. Heather Blazer, Friday Pattern Co. Cambria Duster

– Required Fabric & Notions (Please see your pattern for details.)

*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.

*Skill Levels: Intermediate – You’re no longer intimidated by the idea of reading a pattern and comfortable reading a pattern and have made a number of projects. You would like to learn different methods of zipper installation or how to alter your patterns. You’re venturing into more complicated patterns (e.g., lined garments, plackets, collars, zippered fly). Classes are faster paced and generally require homework.

Modern Domestic Labs: You’re interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor’s guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab’s topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
