Garment Lab: Beginner Garment Sewing
October 3 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT$189
Instructor: Colleen Connolly
Skill Level: Beginner*, ages 15 and up
Lad Sessions: 3 sessions, 2 hours each session
Are you interested in sewing clothing and need support with the basics? In this Lab, you will learn the ins and outs of sewing garments from a pattern in the open sewing format. Bring your project at any point in your process. As you get started sewing, you’ll have support to thread and sew on our classroom BERNINAs, and learn tips and tricks to make your garment look professional.
Your supplies may be available for purchase at Modern Domestic! You are welcome to purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. If you plan to shop in-store for supplies the day of your class, we recommend arriving at least 45 minutes early. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
– Woven Fabric (noted on your pattern) Please bring your fabric washed and ironed ahead of first class.
– All Other Notions (noted on your pattern)
- Beginner – You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
Modern Domestic Labs: You’re interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor’s guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab’s topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
