Beginner Workshop: Bucket Hat
August 18 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm PDT$126
Instructor: Emma Jarvis
Skill Level: Beginner*, ages 15 and up
Class Sessions: 2 sessions, 3 hrs each session
A bucket hat is the perfect accessory for the PNW. Enjoy shade from the sun on the beach, a hike, or just lounging in a park sipping iced tea. This hat has the option for a narrow or wide brim, so whether you want a little sun protection, or a lot, this versatile pattern has you covered!
During this two day workshop, you will practice techniques such as sewing curves, working with interfacing, adding top-stitching details, and how to work with a print-at-home pattern.
All class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. You are welcome to purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. If you plan to shop in-store for supplies the day of your class, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
– 5/8 yard Main fabric (canvas, denim, mid-heavy weight linen, other heavy-weight, structured fabric, 44” wide minimum)
– 3/8 yard Lining Fabric (mid-weight cotton, 44”wide minimum)
– 1 spool of Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread (coordinating or color matching recommended)
– 5/8 yard Interfacing, recommended: ShapeFlex or an alternative mid-weight interfacing
*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
*Skill Level: Beginner – You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
