Beginner Garment Class: Wilder Top & Gown

July 27 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm PDT

$189

Instructor: Rachel Halse

Skill Level: Beginner*, ages 15 and up

The Wilder Gown is a raglan sleeve dress/top that is pulled in and tied at the neckline. It can be made as a long two tiered dress, a single tier short dress, or a top! The pattern also includes options to make it short or long sleeved. The Wilder is as comfortable as it is cute and its modular design lends itself well to customization. You’ll want to make this pattern again and again. The class will cover a basic fitting guide, beginner friendly garment sewing techniques, basic serger skills, and lots of practice at gathering fabric! This class is suitable for those who are just dipping their toes into garment making and those with more experience that want to sew in a friendly environment. Who knows what fun tips, tricks and tidbits you might pick up on the way?

All class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. You are welcome to purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. If you plan to shop in-store for supplies the day of your class, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Supply List:

Wilder Gown Pattern by Friday Pattern Company

Swedish Tracing Pattern

– Fabric required for size and view desired, pre-washed. Wilder can be made in a wide variety of fabrics. Light to medium weight wovens like linen, cotton poplin, batiste, voile and chambray will have a more casual feel. Choose a drapey woven like silk, viscose, tencel or rayon challis for a more elegant or fluid effect. For beginners we highly recommend a more stable woven cotton lawn.

– 1 spool of Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread (coordinating or color matching with exterior fabric is recommended)

*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.

*Skill Level:  Beginner – You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
