Skill Level: Advanced Beginner*, ages 15 and up
The Miller trousers are a relaxed and easy to wear trouser that comes with the option of an elasticated or tie waist. They are designed to sit high on your natural waist and the silhouette is full around the hip with a pleat in the front leg for extra fullness and deep side pockets. There is a dart in the back waist for extra shaping. The leg tapers inwards towards the ankle at the hem creating a streamlined, slightly carrot shaped silhouette.
Learning to sew these pants will give you the opportunity to become a staple in your wardrobe by making them again and again. This class will cover a basic fitting guide, beginner friendly garment sewing techniques, basic serger skills, and lots of practice at hemming!
This class is suitable for those who are just dipping their toes into garment making and those with more experience that want to sew in a friendly environment. Who knows what fun tips, tricks and tidbits you might pick up on the way?
All class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. You are welcome to purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. If you plan to shop in-store for supplies the day of your class, we recommend arriving at least 45 minutes early. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
Supply List:
– Miller Trousers Pattern by Paper Theory
– Fabric required for size and view desired, pre-washed. Please Note: This pattern was designed especially for woven, medium to heavy weight fabrics like cotton and linen and would look great in some heavier fabrics like drill and canvas or a light weight denim. It would also make up well in some lighter fabrics that have a draped quality like wool crepe, viscose twill or double gauze.
– 1 spool small Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread in color to match your fabric
– Optional for waist tie: 2-3 yards cording, 1/8 yard shape flex interfacing, pair of 1/4 grommets
*Skill Level: Advanced Beginner – You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
