Class Length: 3 sessions, 3 hours each session
The Toaster Sweaters consist of two different high neck top designs to keep you toasty warm and stylish in the cooler months. Both styles are very simple to sew and perfect for sewists of all levels who want to try their hand at sewing knits. This class focuses on how to use the classroom BERNINA 400 series sewing machines to tackle knits.
You’ll learn how to fit, cut, test stretch, and sew with knit fabrics on a domestic sewing machine. This class is great if you’ve never sewn with knits, or want to level up your knowledge. You’ll leave class ready to use twin needles on your own, and feel more confident in sewing with knits.
Supply List:
– Toaster Sweater Pattern: Sizes: XS-XXL or 16-34 Curvy Fit
– Knit Fabric (Recommended – Mid to heavyweight stretch fabrics with at least 20% horizontal stretch Lighter fabric can be used for Version #2)
– 2 small spools of Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread
– 1 package Ball Point/Stretch Needles (size: 80/12)
– 1 package Twin Needle Stretch Needle (size: 4,0/75)
– Optional: Knit Interfacing for Version #2 (See pattern for details)
*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
Be prepared – purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. To purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
*Skill Level: Advanced Beginner – You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
