I saw this pillow a while back, and since I’m not much of a crocheter, it sits on my pin board unstitched. I figured some day I would stitch it out on the BERNINA 580E or another sexy embroidery machine to make quick work of the sweet pillow.
Well, then I got just the spark to make this idea work from my friend Enjoli in Alaska. Over on her blog, she mentioned machine embroidering with Aurifil thread!? Well there you have it! We are constantly marveling at the delicate and silky smooth feel of the wonderful Italian thread and use it in many of our projects, including quilting on the frame.
We have some variegated colors of Aurifil at MD that are awaiting discovery, and I thought this would be the perfect way to see what they can do! As you can see, the thread that was used on the original design is variegated or muddled or something with an uneven dye. It is pretty, and lends a comfortable feel to the project. It is fun to break the rules with thread and can be a nice change to see the matte finish of Aurifil thread instead of the shiny Isacord.
Besides a spool of variegated Aurifil thread, all I used for this project is a solid background fabric and a BERNINA 580E sewing machine. We do happen to have one here that you can try out in a session of Embroidery DIY, or save a ton and bring home the floor model today! It remains in the shop after last months demo sale, and we do hope it finds a sweet home soon.
