This is our first fall sewing at Modern Domestic, and we are having a wonderful time coordinating events, planning visiting teacher workshops, and making plans for upcoming sales, and of course, sewing up a storm!
The run down of what we have in store for November is as follows and it is good good stuff, so read slowly and for comprehension. We will keep you updated and fill you in and send you newsletters (which you can sign up for just on the right), and we are always active over on Facebook making sure you know what is new and interesting.
Kick-start your holiday gift making plans at our Handmade Holidays Open House November 6th from 6-9pm. There will be drinks, snacks, and samples galore. We will offer some holiday Unlimited Open Sewing passes; they will be offered for $100 at the event ($130 if you can’t make it) and you can use them for as much open sewing as you can pack in between our event on November 5th through December 23rd. You can come every day, or spend long afternoons preparing your cutting, serging seams, and working out the details on our top quality sewing machines.
The Handmade Holidays Sewing Pass will also get you a 10% discount on any of the Handmade Holidays classes. These included Silkscreen, Applique, short projects like smocks and Banners. We will keep adding new classes all fall, so keep checking the website for new stuff. The class discount is good all fall with the purchase of the pass, otherwise, you can still receive 10% off on any Handmade Holiday classes you would like to register for if you sign up at the Open House!
The very next weekend, we have Elizabeth Hartman from Oh, Fransson, coming to sign her beautiful new book The Practical Guide to Patchwork. She will join us for a few hours from 4-6pm before the next Portland Modern Quilt Guild Open Sewing Night, November 13th, signing books and chatting about all things quilty. If you have had the pleasure of having her as a teacher, or visit her blog, you will know why her book is bound to be a huge hit! We will have copies for purchase, as well as lots of samples from her book and new winter class offerings freshly posted to sign up for at the event.
Of course, you can stay a little later in the evening and actually do some quilting with Elizabeth and the rest of the wonderful people involved in the Portland Modern Quilt Guild. We love the sewing nights, lots of great relaxing company as well as inspiration and relaxation. The quilting starts at 6 and goes till 9 for only $10!
We are thrilled to have author Kata Golda coming to teach a Stuffed Companion class on working with felt and hand-stitching Tuesday, November 23rd. In this class, you will sew a Stuffed Companion that makes a perfect Christmas or Holiday gift. It will be a little boy or girl mouse, which is super sweet and approximately 12″ tall! We are eagerly expecting a big box of books, samples, kits, and soft companions for sale the end of this week. Kata has a way of bringing felt to life and creating amazingly lovely creatures with her delicate and simple techniques.
The following Friday (Black Friday), we will begin our first ever holiday sewing machine sale! Now offering Layaway, you can come in anytime to put money down on a machine, then during the sale, receive the sale price! We will sell all of our classroom machines, floor models and new in box machines as well. This is going to be a HUGE and very fun week of getting machines into your homes, hands, and hearts.
We hope to see you at each and every one of these wonderful events! Remember you can start early preparations for all your projects this weekend at the spectacular Bolt 5th anniversary sale!
